Exceeding all expectations!

We are all feeling we are living a dream! Friday’s destination was Fresseline, the village made famous from Monet’s three month painting spree there before the first salon of impressionists. Morning was spent exploring and painting in our travel journals, a picnic. We sketched in our journals to the hourly ringing of church bells. At noon I just missed getting a video recording to share with you all. But it was wonderful. We got a photo with Monet!

An amazing visit to the home studio of the gifted French Artist, Isabelle Violette was a very special time to see her paintings and hear her share about her process. Coffee in her garden was the cherry on top!

We hiked down to the confluence of the two rivers made famous by Monet. It was a bit of a trek coming back up the path, but we enjoyed the cows!

The museum Espace Monet Rollinat in Fresseline made our day “over the top!” https://sites-valleedespeintres.com/espace-monet-rollinat-expositions-carte-blanche-centre-art/

Although it is all in French, I translated when needed. We learned of Monet’s struggle of painting plein air for the upcoming Paris exhibit, but hampered by rain and more rain.  A deadline even more imposing because he needed finances to support his large family.

Another fabulous exhibit at this museum was of a contemporary artist, new to me, Georges Chazaud who brought back tapestry as an art form. What a wonderful surprise! Monday we are going to Aubusson where the tapestries of Europe were made for Kings, that is now finding new life. More on that in the next blog.
