Aubusson - weaving tapistries for nearly six centuries!

 Breathtaking tapestries, both old and new, are on display at the UESCO world heritage site in Aubusson where those giant tapisseries you see in museums were created. The picturesque city takes you back to the middle ages with its bridge, and buildings built along the river. The artistry is simply astounding as well as the weaving process. Did I mention the gift shop?????

Sidewalk cafe restaurants never never disappoint. Neither do the flower shops and landscape.

The Days of Crepes and Roses

Preparing meals for each other is such a treat! For the chefs and for the artists. Crepes are a tradition in our family so that was steve and my contribution. Savory and sweet - don’t ask how many we ate!

 

Roses are everywhere you go. Roses of every color and variety. We are enthralled by the variety Nicole says are « rose ronsard «  that dates back to the middle ages. Nicole’s porcelain painting art studio is surrounded!

Friends having a serious discussion..,.talking our limited technology! We catch the internet on the patio  outside their office door (but they are constantly inviting us inside .)

Of course we decide to paint roses. They say in order to know how to paint a rose you have to paint a thousand.  And

 Nine hours later….

 Our hosts are such a charming couple. This year is their 65th anniversary.

Market day!

Open air markets are an important part of French culture which we got to experience in Gueret Saturday.  The city square starts coming alive early morning with vendors selling cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables, honey, meats and sausages, clothes, jewelry, plants and flowers, with the delicious aroma of chickens broiling on spits wafting through the air. We came back to Chezemma’s with clothes, white asparagus, strawberries and photos for painting inspiration. 

The Afternoon was spent painting and preparing for the art exhibit that happens this afternoon in St Silvain in the 12th century church. Photos of the exhibit later!

Three of our artists are florists, so they created magnificent bouquets from Nicole’s garden to display.
